Origin of the project and presentation of the concept

Arctivism was launched in October 2009. It is a neologism born from the contraction of the words “art” and “activism” to denote the socio-political activism carried by art.

The main purpose of this concept is to participate in raising the awareness of African youth on Pan-Africanism through culture and education. To do this, our action biases are public speaking (rap, slam, storytelling etc.), painting, dance and documentary films.

In other words Arctivism is a triptych that offers as part of an evening: a documentary screening, a debate and a concert. All of these activities revolve around a leading figure in the struggles for the emancipation of the African people and their diaspora.

Since 2009, the event has taken place more than twenty times around the world (several districts of Lomé, Kpalimé and Assahoun in Togo, Paris, Cotonou, Dakar, Accra). About twenty people were celebrated.

In addition, in each of these editions, a magazine named ASRAFOZINE is published free of charge.
